Attendance and Reporting an Absence

As a school we believe that if pupils are to benefit from education and reach their potential, good punctuality and attendance is crucial and we expect pupils to be present every day the school is open unless the reason for the absence is unavoidable. Attendance is essential for pupils to get the most out of their school experience, including their attainment, wellbeing, and wider life chances and data shows that the pupils with the highest attainment at the end of key stage 2 and key stage 4 have higher rates of attendance over the key stage compared to those with the lowest attainment.

We have recently reviewed our Attendance and Punctuality policy to ensure that we are in line with changes to the Department for Educations 'Working Together to Improve School Attendance' which is available below.

Good attendance = high achievement

"Pupils who did not achieve grades 9-4 in English and maths GCSEs in 2019 had an absence rate of 8.8%, compared with 5.2% among pupils who achieved grade 4 in both subjects, and 3.7% among pupils who achieved grade 5 or above." (DfE)
