Principal meets President of Malta

Back
Three people are stood in a line in a grand room.

Mary Hare Principal, Peter Gale, met with the President of Malta to share discussions about the important role that Mary Hare School plays in securing the future for young deaf people.

Some years ago Peter Gale gave a talk in Malta to parents of deaf children and one parent set her heart on the idea of her daughter coming to Mary Hare.

Gina D'Anastasi began conversations with authorities to fund the placement of her daughter, Mariah, who eventually joined Mary Hare in Year 10. Mariah is now in Sixth Form studying A Levels with plans to go to university.

When Peter was visiting Malta last week, a meeting had been secured with Mariah and her mother, along with the President of Malta, George Vella, who has taken an interest in Mariah and her placement.

Peter said 'We spent a very pleasant hour with His Excellency, President Vella. Mariah was able to update him on her progress and plans and he was interested to hear more about Mary Hare School and the challenges facing deaf learners. He showed a keen interest in our work and in Mariah. It was a real privilege to meet him in Sant'Anton Palace, his official residence.'
