As part of the Newport Marathon weekend, Hazel proudly conquered the 2km Family Fun Run. Hazel's family shares her achievements and her preparation leading up to the event:
“She trained by running round our block of houses, but not usually managing more than 1/2 a mile. The big day was a huge step up. It was Hazel‘s idea to dedicate her run to a charity, and chose Mary Hare.”
Hazel has donated £50 to the Mary Hare Foundation, which will support future projects at the School.
"In particular we want to acknowledge the support Hazel receives in addition to her deafness, and the Stronger Together Club stands out as a great opportunity Hazel has to target her physical needs and self-esteem as someone with Cerebral Palsy. Thank you to Mary Hare staff for all your support. Hazel is happy and thriving. It seems that running and challenges have been common place in the family recently as Hazel's mum shares their recent family achievements:
"In addition to Hazel‘s challenge I took on the Newport Marathon, her dad completed the Great Welsh Marathon two weeks prior, and Hazel‘s brother, Alistair has been training for the Ten Tors Dartmoor challenge. He completed 32 miles of hiking last wkend and has just been selected for the final team event. We are a tired family but all sharing in a sense of achievement and supporting each other."
Well done Hazel, this is a brilliant achievement, and we are all very proud and thankful for your support!
