Starting at Corfe Castle, the route took runners on a approximately 23km trail to the Jurassic Coast, where the route stayed for 21km, before making its way back inland through woodland to Corfe Castle. The route was all off road, with plenty of hills and views to enjoy along the way, totally in 1300m of elevation gain.
Selina says her experience of the day: "I did it! I completed the Jurassic Coast Ultra! It was an epic day of adventure, which included mighty hills, beautiful breathtaking coastlines and a big sense of achievement. In the morning we saw beautiful autumnal sunshine, but I did know that wind was to be expected. It was an initial 23km-ish stretch of running to get to the coast and, when I got there, I couldn't have predicted just how windy it was going to be! But the views were just amazing. I feel incredibly lucky to have been able to run across such a fantastic area of natural beauty - and I now know what 1300m of elevation truly feels like!
The route had lots of support with members of the public and event marshals. My partner, Ed, welcomed me at every outpost, and my family were cheering me on through sending me messages. I did add a little bit of unplanned distance in my route when a group of us got lost – a costly event meant that I in fact completed 58km instead of 54km! The final 14km was much less windy as we headed back inland, and I enjoyed lots of the lovely woodland, and waved happpily past Corfe Castle as I knew I was entering the final stretch to the finish. I was welcomed by lots of cheers as I crossed the finish line and was handed a nice cold alcohol free beer to enjoy!"
A huge congratulations to Selina, a fantastic achievement accomplished that is not for the faint hearted!
