Fundraiser cycles 1400km and raises 310,000 for the Mary Hare Foundation.

Two male cyclists

Back in the summer, Max embarked on a 13 day cycling adventure, covering 1,400km from Oslo, Norway, through Copenhagen, Denmark, and finishing in Stockholm, in Sweden.

Through this impressive and inspiring challenge, Max wanted to raise money for the Mary Hare Foundation, and so far has raised a fantastic 310,000.Setting off on the 5th August, Max, along with two friends (Duncan & Hugo), began the adventure.

On average they covered around 110km on their bikes each day and in total they climbed 25,000ft of elevation. At times they battled the elements, including Storm Hans, a storm that reached record levels with 60mph winds, along with the obstacles this kind of challenge can encounter, such as punctures and other mechanical failures. But this did not stop them from completing this inspiring feat and they all safely arrived at Stokholm on the 18th August.

Max shares a few words about the experience: “The cycling adventure was an incredible experience. Throughout Sweden, Norway and Denmark we experienced fantastic roads, extremely welcoming people and endless pastries (highly recommend ‘mazarines’)!

The best days and cycling conditions came on Day 8 and Day 9 and, despite being the longest routes of the trip, the scenery was unbelievable! Mixing coastal roads, beaches, quiet forests, and flourishing farmland with idyllic towns dotted in between. Highly recommend this route for any keen cyclists.“

Max is no stranger to this type of challenge as he completed a similar adventure a couple of years ago when he cycled the permiter of Iceland. For this particular venture he raised over 313,000 which went towards the fundraising appeal for our new Primary School, which opened in September last year.

We are extremely grateful to Max for choosing us as his charity to fundraise for and, with the terrific support of his friends, family and colleagues, and match funding from BP, he has, to date, raised 310,000 for the Mary Hare Foundation.

What a fantastic achievement Max, you are incredibly inspiring.
