A shining example
Sonny is interested in history, particularly that of the railways
During the holidays he volunteers at Shuttleworth, an aeronautical and automotive museum
The work experience that Sonny undertook at the Arcade was of particular interest to him because of his interest in history and antiques
The Hungerford Arcade said 'Sonny was always happy and smiling and had no problem communicating with staff and customers
In fact, he was so good that customers did not realise he was deaf
He was a credit to himself and Mary Hare School
We were very impressed with Sonny
He is outgoing, confident, gets on with everyone and is very intelligent
We know whatever career Sonny chooses in the future, he will be a very successful young man.'This placement is part of the Get Set work programme for 6th Form students
It stands for Get Skills, Experience and Training
It is designed to give students the opportunity to have a meaningful and relevant experience of the world of work
Students have the opportunity to gain employment after leaving Mary Hare
Work experience gives them the skills and confidence to do this
Mary Hare works with a wide range of companies in various industries, all of whom have contributed in some way to giving the students the confidence they need to follow a career of their choice. Sonny's placement ontinues after the half term break, when we know he will continue to grow in confidence and look after the customers .
The Hungerford Arcade is a regular supporter of Mary Hare for fundraising as well as offering work placements to 6th Form pupils.
