Examinations

Sitting an examination

The teachers and the exams team will make every effort to ensure students are prepared for their exams, that administrative arrangements run smoothly and ultimately students will achieve their best. Parents and carers have an important role to play ensuring students are fully prepared for their exams. Plenty of sleep, rest and having something to eat before an exam and ensuring students are aware what is required of them before, during and after an exam.

The exams team is made up of Liesl Britten and Tracy Turner who can be contacted via exams@maryhare.org.uk. Students are welcome to email us, message us on teams or call in to the exams office if they have any concerns or need advice.

Timetables

Personalised examination timetables for each exam series (November, January, Summer) are distributed via email to each candidate. For ad-hoc exams, information will be emailed home by the Head of the subject faculty, for example: Functional Skills English Exams by Head of English.

Contingency Examination Dates

The JCQ (Joint Council for Qualifications) Contingency days are timetabled for:

  • WEDNESDAY 11TH JUNE 2025 (afternoon)
  • WEDNESDAY 25TH JUNE 2025 (all day)

These contingency days are designed to be used in the event of national or significant local disruption to exams. Students must be available up to and including these days. If the need arises to use the above days and a student is unavailable, they will not receive a grade for the subject/s affected.

Stationery & water bottles

From the beginning of year 10, students are required to have a clear, see through pencil case which meets exam requirements. A pencil case should include black pens, pencils, ruler, compass, protractor, eraser, highlighter and scientific calculator.  If students wish to take a water bottle into an exam, the bottle must be clear with no writing on.

Examination Dress Code

Students up to and including year 11 must attend exams in school uniform. Sixth form students must be dressed smartly as per the sixth form dress code. No clothing with written words on is permitted. No student with ink writing on their hands and arms will be permitted into an exam.

Examinations Polices/Regulations/Procedures

Below are links to several documents covering policies, procedures and regulations related to examinations for candidates. All students are made aware of these through their exam journey and will see the regulation posters when they enter exam halls/rooms.

Examination Results

For summer series exams, results are emailed home. Results for exams sat at other times of the year are passed to students in school.

Post Results Services

If students have a query or are unhappy with their grades, in the first instance this should be discussed with the subject teacher. If a priority review of results (for university applications only), standard review of results or clerical recheck is agreed as appropriate by the subject teacher, costs will be met by Mary Hare. Any post result service solely requested by parents/guardians is payable by bank transfer and must be settled before any request to the exam boards is processed.

Examination Certificates

Certificates are available to collect from Mary Hare in November of the year students sit their exams, ie exams sat in June 2025 would be available to collect November 2025. These can be collected either from the exams office or on ‘Speech Day’, Mary Hare’s annual presentation and awards event.  All year 13 school leavers are invited to attend. At this time, the current year 12 students are also able to collect any examination certificates accrued to date. If students are unable to collect certificates from school, they can be posted via recorded delivery which is payable by bank transfer and payment must be made before certificates are posted.

Mary Hare School is obliged to securely store exam certificates for one year, however we store them for three years after which time they are destroyed.
