Plumbing
Our dedicated construction workshop is a great place to develop your professional skills, and to build your future as a plumber in the construction industry. As part of your study we recommend students seek out a short work experience placement, which will help you to appreciate and develop the skills and attitudes employers are looking for as you prepare for transition to the workplace.
Course details
Level 1: This level is a taster course suitable for beginners. This is where you will start to develop your practical hand skills and learn the basics of the trade.
By the end of the course you will have a good idea of whether or not you would like to progress your studies to become a professional plumber.
You will be learning new skills and gain new knowledge. You will be supervised as you undertake various practical and knowledge-based activities.
You will study: installation of pipes and fittings, repair and maintenance of plumbing and drainage systems. In theory lessons you will gain a good understanding of general plumbing knowledge including: plumbing science, electrical science and technology, the structure of the construction industry,
health and safety, environmental and sustainability.
Level 2: Students who pass Level 1 can go onto the 6035 Level 2 course at school which forms as part of a plumbing apprenticeship. This is an industry recognised course which will, on successful completion, qualify you as semi-skilled plumbers mate and allow you to work alongside a qualified plumber.
This course requires students to complete more challenging practical tasks in a range a of exciting modules designed to provide you with the knowledge
and skills to move forward in your plumbing career. By the end of this course you will be able to install a bathroom, and undertake many common plumbing
tasks.
Entry requirements
You should have completed your GCSE courses and taken the examinations. You must be 16 years of age.
You will continue to study English and Maths if you have not yet achieved a GCSE grade 4 or better in those subjects.
All students need to complete Level 1 before studying at Level 2.
Course assessment
Level 1: An exciting range of practical activities are assessed in our workshop, by our highly trained team of tutors.
Knowledge of theory is assessed through written knowledge tests taken at intervals during the course of the year.
Level 2: Practical assessments are carried out in the same way as Level 1, however theory assessments are through online multiple choice tests.
