Course details
The aims and objectives of Economics are to enable students to:
• Appreciate the contribution of economics to the understanding of the wider economic and social environment.
• Use an enquiring, critical and thoughtful approach to the study of Economics and develop an ability to think as an economist.
• Develop analytical and quantitative skills, together with qualities and attitudes that will equip them for challenges, opportunities and responsibilities of adult and working life.
AS level Economics is embedded in the A level.
Theme 1 and Theme 2 are completed in the first year. Students then progress to Theme 3 and Theme 4 to complete the full A Level course.
Theme 1: Introduction to markets and market failure.
Theme 2: The UK Economy – Performance and Policies.
Theme 3: Business behaviour and the labour market.
Theme 4: A global perspective
Entry requirements
There are no prior learning requirements for this qualification however, a good level of written English and Mathematics GCSE would be beneficial.

AS Level
Paper 1: Introduction to markets and market failure.
Paper 2: The UK Economy – performance and policies.
A Level
Paper 1: Markets and business behaviour. Assessing Theme 1 and Theme 3.
Paper 2: The National and global economy. Assessing Theme 2 and Theme 4.
Paper 3: Microeconomics and Macroeconomics.
