Business BTEC Level 3 is a vibrant subject that involves studying how businesses of all sizes and shapes operate and produce results. We aim to study the vital areas of Personal and Business Finance and Developing a Marketing campaign, business purpose, aims and organisation and the recruitment and selection processes undertaken by businesses. The course is designed to support students who are happy to be assessed using formal written examinations and coursework-based assessment.

There are 4 units of which 3 are mandatory and 2 are external.
• Exploring business (Internally assessed coursework)
• Personal and Business Finance (Externally assessed written examination)
• Developing a Marketing campaign (Externally assessed written examination Synoptic)
• Recruitment and Selection (Internally assessed coursework)

The Extended Certificate is for learners who are interested in learning about the business sector alongside other fields of study, with a view to progressing to a wide range of higher education courses, not necessarily in business-related subjects. It is designed to be taken as part of a programme of study that includes other appropriate BTEC Nationals or A Levels.

The work experience element of the BTEC course happens once a year and is invaluable for student confidence and knowledge but also provides vital
references from reputable local, national and international employers that can often open up career doorways.

Entry requirements
Individuals do not need to have studied Business Studies at GCSE or Level 2 BTEC to start this course.
The main entry qualification is a Grade 4 or above in English and Maths at GCSE and an interest in business and current affairs.

Course assessment
• Mandatory content (83%)
• External assessment (58%)

It is a vocational course divided into four units of study and includes:
• Two external written examinations
• Extensive use of research and case-study material for the two internally assessed coursework.

This course is equivalent in size to one A Level.
