Key Stage 1 and 2

The curriculum at Mary Hare Primary is designed to equip our children with world knowledge and key skills to thrive in a constantly changing and evolving hearing world.

Our curriculum is therefore highly specialised to fully support our children as it adapts to the needs of each child through our flexible approach. We aim to deliver an aspirational, ambitious curriculum, comparable to that received by hearing peers, which overcomes the challenges and impacts of deafness on: language acquisition; learning skillset and achievement. We offer the full national curriculum, tailored to the individual needs of all pupils. Through our cohesive and collaborative teaching, we can respond to the cultural and linguistic diversity of our learners as well as encourage acceptance, resilience, creativity, curiosity, self-belief, confidence, organisational skills, independence and excellent communication skills. Our aim is to enable our children to enter the wider world with high aspirations and a desire to achieve. We embed real-life experiences into all our learning with links to Mary Hare Secondary School, mainstream settings, trips out, the local community and outdoor learning within our wonderful school grounds. Through our teaching and holistic approach, we provide opportunities for children who are not yet ready to be independent learners to develop the skillset to do so. We ensure wellbeing, self-image and resilience are embedded within the curriculum and our holistic approach both in education and care.
