Year 10

Component 1- Understanding Drama

Understanding subject terminology, Studying a set text and reviewing live theatre.

HT1 Students will study Blood Brothers set text in detail. Moving through the whole play both practically and analytically. Students will develop their subject terminology with weekly knowledge sessions and reflections. Students will watch and review a live theatre performance studying the actors and directors/designers intentions and the effectiveness of these decisions and the production as a whole.

Year 11

Component 3 - Texts in Practice

Using performance skills to interpret and perform a monologue and group piece

Revision of Component 1- Understanding Drama

Looking specifically at the Live Theatre section of the exam

Students will be given a monologue and a group piece from a text which meets the guidelines as set by AQA. Students will research the play and read it to understand context. Students will then rehearse these scripted performances, using physical, vocal and spatial skills to create a performance for their C3 assessed unit.

Students will watch Things I know to be True on Digital theatre + and learn how to answer the 32 mark question by breaking down the terminology and expectations. 

Autumn 2

Year 10

Component 1+3 - Texts in Practice

Using performance skills to interpret and perform a monologue and group piece.

HT2 Students will use contrasting texts to create fully practical performances. Students will study their own texts independently, analyse their characters and utilise this knowledge to influence their performances. Students will also work in a group/duo to perform a second piece. Students will use the set text from C1 so we can continue to embed this knowledge for their written exam.

Students must learn how to create and develop ideas to communicate meaning in a devised theatrical performance.

Students will work as part of a group to respond to stimulus. Stimulus will be set by the teacher who will offer a varied supply of stimuli. Students will analyse these as a group, deciding on which stimulus will allow them the opportunity to create the most unique and original performance, showing off their skills and abilities. This will be accompanied by a devising log which documents their journey through the component as well as their successes and struggles.

Students will complete the ideas section of their devising log and hand in their final submission. Students will begin their development sections and hand in their first drafts.
