Year 10

General Introduction to GSCE Dance

Lots of practical tasks developing skills, increasing movement vocabulary and range of movement.

Year 11

Component 1 –  Set Phrases, Filming of coursework

Set phrases through a solo performance (approximately one minute in duration)

Autumn 2

Year 10

Knowledge and understanding of choreographic processes and performing skills

Creating a group Dance for performance with critical appreciation of own work.

Year 11

Component 1 – Development of Performance and Choreography

Component 2 – Dance Appreciation (with a focus on Section A and B questions)

Duet/trio performance (three minutes in a dance which is a maximum of five minutes in duration)

Choreography

Solo or group choreography – a solo (two to two and a half minutes) or a group dance for two to five dancers ( three to three and a half minutes)

Study of choreographic processes, performance, physical and technical skills.

Spring 1

Year 10

Learning how to choreograph

Learning how to use motif, devices and building on physical skills to develop student’s own dance. 

Briefs include ‘a dance in the style of’

Year 11

Component 1 – Development of Performance and Choreography

Component 2 – Dance Appreciation (with a focus on Section A and B questions)

Study of the six pieces in the Dance Anthology.

Year 11

Revision and preparation for the exam.

Preparation for Written Exam: 1 hour 30 minutes.

Questions based on student’s own practice in performance and choreography and the GCSE Dance Anthology.

Summer 2

Year 10
