Lorna is a qualified highly specialist speech and language therapist, having gained a First Class BSc (hons) degree from Newcastle University in 1998, the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapist’s Advanced Clinical Skills diploma in working with people who are deaf in 2004 and an MSc Human Communication Science (speech and language therapy and deafness) with distinction from City University in 2005. Lorna has been providing lectures for trainee Teacher of the Deaf students since 2002 and has been a module leader on the MA ToD course since 2013. Lorna’s current teaching topics include the development of language, speech and communication skills, how deafness impacts language, speech and communication, developmental language disorder and deafness, and the assessment and facilitation of these skills. Lorna has previously taught sessions on speech acoustics and phonological awareness. As well as teaching on the MA course, Lorna has supervised dissertations.
